Are there any non-surgical breast reduction methods?
Having overly large breasts can be a real burden for women confronted with this issue. Aside from the aesthetic aspects, there are also issues related to the health condition of the woman and her quality of life in general. Because the breasts can weigh quite a lot, women with excessively large breasts can find it difficult to engage in sports and even perform simple tasks such as running after the kids in the backyard.
Most women suffering due to the excessive volume of the breasts often look for methods to reduce the size of their breasts. Usually, the first idea would be to find a non-surgical breast reduction method, and they might research creams and pills and even massages. It is important to understand straight ahead that there are no non-surgical methods to reduce the size and volume of the breasts. Just like in the case of correcting breasts that are very small compared to the woman’s anatomy, there is little that can be done to correct large breasts aside from undergoing plastic surgery. Some patients try strict diets in an attempt to lose weight and make their breasts smaller. This is not a good idea, and weight fluctuations could actually have a more negative impact on the breasts. Breasts that are overly small won’t reduce their size and become perky and smaller after a diet. What will happen is that they can become saggier and hang low on the chest wall.
The only effective method to reduce the size of the breasts is with the help of plastic surgery. The overdevelopment of the breasts is also called breast hypertrophy, defined as an excessive growth of the mammary gland that can occur during teenage years or at some other point in the woman’s life (e.g. during pregnancy). The procedure used nowadays to reduce the size of the breasts is called breast reduction surgery, and it can be safely performed on patients of different ages, from as young as 16 years old. This means that even if the patient is a teenager, she can still benefit from the procedure. When the overdevelopment of the mammary gland is extreme, the recommendation is to undergo the procedure as soon as possible in life to avoid permanent damage that can be caused by the large volume of the breasts.
Breast reduction surgery is performed with the help of general anesthesia and can take up to two hours, depending from case to case. The procedure can be performed as a stand-alone procedure or in combination with other procedures such as liposuction or even a tummy tuck. This is often the case for patients who have had multiple pregnancies or have lost a significant amount of weight and are left with saggy skin in different areas of the body.
Breast reduction entails a period of recovery of no longer than two weeks, and after this time the patient can resume most of her regular activities, including work.
